These last few weeks have been exhausting. Work ramped up, then my social life ramped up, and as a result, my anxiety has also chosen to ramp up. I had a vacation three weeks ago but… I need a vacation. It doesn’t have to be long, just a couple of days ought to do the trick. All I’m asking is to spend two days in preferably someone else’s house doing absolutely nothing except watching Westworld and eating pizza. I’d also like to be snowed in and be out of cell service range but still have incredibly good wifi. Is that so much to ask?

The entire thing gets ruined when I think about packing, though. I’m sure there are people who love to pack, but I’m not one of them. I’m very much a shove things into a bag with haste type of gal, so weekender bags are perfect for me. After seeing this post about getaway bags, I realized that – much like everything else – my taste in weekender bags is picky. Also, many getaway bags are so average looking, so I dug up some affordable, interesting, beautiful weekender bags for that inevitable inevitable moment when you book an AirBnB at 3:00am and have plans to leave at 8:00am.

This is pretty much the standard weekender bag look. Handles on top, maybe two pockets, and a top zipper. It’s a glorified duffle bag, basically, and I love it. This apothecary bag style really goes well with weekender bags because you want them to be massive, but functional.

You could easily take the weekender bag to a completely sporty place, though, too. This one borders on an almost nautical look, but it also looks like a millennial-pink version of a 1970s gym bag.

Back to the apothecary/doctor bag style for a minute, because this one is a few levels above the norm. First of all, it’s leather, so if you’re throwing it into the back of a truck and driving off into the sunset, it’ll hold up just fine. Secondly, the entire bottom zips open which lets you separate dirty clothes, shoes, or whatever else from your main compartment.

Let’s take a sharp left turn for a second and talk about backpacks. I’ve been in love with stylish, adult backpacks for my entire adult life, and now that they’ve become a daily use item for people beyond the Coachella attendee list, there are some really good ones. Typically, backpacks like this one have less volume than your average duffle or weekender bag, though, so keep that in mind.

A more fun way to be a utilitarian is with an ample number of pockets. The color of this bag is both dangerous and beautiful, but what I love the most is the shape. It’s nice and wide while being decently deep, and you can tell that when it’s stuffed full of your favorite pajamas, it’ll keep its shape for easy, modular packing.

It pretends like it’s utilitarian with its little rope and hardware, but we all know this bag has sanitizing wipes in it at all times and doesn’t get set down on the floor of public bathrooms.
